Can you shoot your handicap to win a bet at odds of 100-1? This bloke did!
Here is an account of his round from Golf Cash
Tee off at 6.30am and its very very cold but i feel good after a quiet Saturday night at home. i have told none of my playing partners about my bet with you so i don’t have the added pressure.
1st) easy par5 to start and make a clinical par (3pts).
2nd) tough par3 and take bogey after bad tee shot (2pts).
3rd) tough par4 and take d.bogey after driving deep in the trees (1pt).
4th) easy par3 and hit great tee shot to about 8 ft. miss the putt (2pts).
5th) easy par5 i normally struggle on. 3 good shoots and hole 10ft birdie (3pts).
6th) short par4 but drove in a bush. take bogey (1pt)
7th) good par4 and hit great drive then stuff up 3 shots and take d.bogey (1pt).
8th) short par4 and hit in trees but it bounces back in fairway. make par (2pts).
9th) tough par4 and hit great drive and 4 iron. 2 putts from 20ft (3pts).
turn in 18 points and starting to feel confident as i usually play better on back nine and it is a lot warmer now.
10th) long par4 and hit good drive but only manage a bogey (2pts).
11th) long par3. hit a great 4 iron over the water & bunker to 10ft. make 3 (3pts).
12th) short par4. normally stuggle on this hole but made an easy par (2pts).
13th) long par4. hit great drive and 4 iron to 15ft but 3 putt for bogey (2pts).
14th) good par4. drive in the trees but recover to make bogey (2pts).
15th) par5 up the hill. bad drive and have to settle for a bogey (1pt).
3 holes to go and i need 6 points to win the bet. and this is where the nerves start to set in as i only get a shot on the last hole.
16th) short par4. pull my drive left and some how it stops on a down slope 1m from the water. with an awkward stance i hit a great 70m SW to 10ft but left with a quick downhill putt. birdie put stops about 2 rolls short of the hole so tap in for par (2pts).
17th) 130m par 3 and the fairway is all water. pin is just over the water and i hit 9 iron. looks so sweet in the air but it falls just short and hits the rock face and hopes look to be fading. take drop from front of tee area 100m out and hit a great shot with PW to about 8ft. need this putt or i will need a birdie on the last. uphill putt and i knock it straight in the heart and make a great bogey (1pt).
18th) good par 5 with water in play on drive and 2nd shot. needing a par to win the bet i hit my best drive of the day long and straight down the middle. hit a 4 iron over the water and i am now left with 110m to the pin. i’m so nervous standing over my ball but i hit my PW to about 10ft. knowing i need only 2 putts to win i lag the ball to a few cm’s and duely tap in for a par (3pts).
so i finish with an even 36 points and win the golfcash bet plus some side bets with my mates. and at the 19th hole over a few beers i reveal my win to my mates and they said that explains why i seemed so nervous over the final few holes.
so thanks for the challenge. it was very enjoyable and i loved the extra pressure it added to my round.
