Welcome to The Golf Blog. My name is ‘robbo’ and I am a golfer just like you! I play at Warringah in Sydney off a handicap of 13 and have lots of mates who play golf. I simply love the game. I am hoping to find the answers to a few questions I have, and I’ll bet you a free round of golf with me that you can’t get any of them correct.
I have asked all my questions to the highest authorities in the world of golf, and every time I got a different answer. There was one consistant theme though, all their answers were wrong. Now I am talking about people paid to know the rules of golf inside and out, and none of them could come up with the answer. Here is the first question that has stumped the lot of them, let’s see what your answer is?
When did you become an Amateur Golfer?
You are an amateur golfer when you play in your first club match?
When you join a golf club ?
No not correct, that’s what I orginally thought.
No Barry, I would have thought it was linked to that as well but there is nothing in the documents you sign with your club saying you are now an amateur golfer and will need to abide by the rules of amateur status. Nor is there anything in the rules of amateur status that tell you WHEN you become an amateur.
